James’s family live in a village in an area of the Solomon Islands that is exceptionally isolated. Not only is his village isolated, but James has become socially isolated because people can react to how he looks with fear.

For James to reach a main town where the things he needs for surgery – like travel documents, passports and the medical visas needed to get to Australia – can be applied for, it takes two days of constant, arduous, and costly travel from his home.
