Farewell event at the Retreat

Around 70 volunteers, staff and friends gathered at the Miracle sMiles Retreat last Sunday to wish Pat and Michelle well as they leave us for new challenges.

Pat has been involved with Children First for 15 years, as Retreat manager for the past 7 years. Former CEO Margaret Smith has known Pat all this time and was invited to speak at the event.

A bottle-brush tree has been planted at the Retreat as a permanent reminder of Pat. It’s behind the trampoline so he’ll soon be providing shade for the kids while they play!

Pat is credited with establishing the unique holistic care model we have at the Retreat – and as he is often quoted, we aim to send the children home happy, healthy and hopeful.

Whilst we will all miss Pat – and that sometimes indecipherable Irish accent we all love – we are fortunate to have appointed a wonderful team to continue the care.  They’ll be armed with a detailed manual of advice and instructions prepared by Pat – the Retreat Bible…📚

So Pat,  as the plaque under your tree says, “may good luck be your friend in whatever you do; and may trouble be always a stranger to you.” Stay safe, and don’t forget us.
